Arabia Saudita dona 400 millones a Ucrania y pide fin de la guerra

Durante su visita a Kiev, el titular de Exteriores de Riad, Farhan bin Faisal, llamó a respetar el derecho internacional y acabar con los combates a través de un acuerdo auspiciado por la ONU.

El ministro de Exteriores de Arabia Saudita, el príncipe Farhan bin Faisal, llegó a Kiev este domingo para firmar un acuerdo por medio del cual Riad entregará ayuda humanitaria y financiará la compra de derivados del petróleo para apoyar a Ucrania. “Esperamos que esto ayude a mitigar el sufrimiento de los ucranianos durante esta crisis humanitaria”, dijo Bin Faisal.

Según el mismo ministro saudita, el total del acuerdo asciende a 400 millones de dólares. Además, tras reunirse con el presidente ucraniano, Volodimir Zelenski, Bin Faisal se mostró a favor del fin de la guerra bajo el auspicio de Naciones Unidas, y dijo que las conversaciones con el mandatario habían sido “muy fructíferas”, donde además de cooperación, hablaron de los problemas derivados del conflicto.

“El Reino de Arabia Saudita desea hacer todo lo posible para reducir la gravedad de las hostilidades. Como saben, toda guerra termina con el diálogo y la mesa de negociaciones. Pero, por supuesto, esto debe hacerse bajo los auspicios de las Naciones Unidas y respetando el derecho internacional”, dijo Bin Faisal. Agregó que Riad espera que la propuesta de paz de Zelenski “se convierta en la base de un futuro acuerdo”.

“Gracias por apoyar la paz”

Zelenski, por su parte, agradeció al ministro saudita, el primero de ese país en visitar Ucrania desde el establecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas, en abril de 1993. “Gracias por apoyar la paz en Ucrania, nuestra soberanía e integridad territorial. Esto es muy importante para nosotros y para nuestra sociedad”, escribió el mandatario ucraniano a través de Telegram.

El jefe de la oficina presidencial ucraniana, Andriy Yermak, explicó que ambos países acordaron profundizar la cooperación “en todos los ámbitos clave, incluidos la inversión y la energía”, además de discutir la participación de Arabia Saudita en la “iniciativa del grano”, el apoyo a la fórmula de paz y la lucha contra los ataques de drones iraníes.

During his visit to Kiev, Riyadh’s foreign minister, Farhan bin Faisal, called for respect for international law and an end to the fighting through a UN-sponsored agreement.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Farhan bin Faisal arrived in Kiev on Sunday to sign an agreement whereby Riyadh will deliver humanitarian aid and fund the purchase of oil derivatives to support Ukraine. “We hope this will help mitigate the suffering of Ukrainians during this humanitarian crisis,” bin Faisal said.

According to the same Saudi minister, the total of the agreement amounts to $400 million. In addition, after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, Bin Faisal was in favor of the end of the war under the auspices of the United Nations, and said that the talks with the president had been “very fruitful”, where in addition to cooperation, they discussed the problems arising from the conflict.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia wishes to do everything possible to reduce the severity of the hostilities. As you know, every war ends with dialogue and the negotiating table. But, of course, this must be done under the auspices of the United Nations and respecting international law,” Bin Faisal said. He added that Riyadh hopes Zelenski’s peace proposal “will become the basis for a future agreement.”

“Thank you for supporting peace”

Zelenski, for his part, thanked the Saudi minister, the first from that country to visit Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations in April 1993. “Thank you for supporting peace in Ukraine, our sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is very important for us and for our society,” the Ukrainian leader wrote via Telegram.

The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, explained that the two countries agreed to deepen cooperation “in all key areas, including investment and energy,” in addition to discussing Saudi Arabia’s participation in the “grain initiative,” support for the peace formula and the fight against Iranian drone attacks.
